For anyone who enjoys spending time in parks, Portland, Oregon is a prime destination. The city is home to a large number of parks of various sizes. This includes the Mills End Park in downtown Portland. It’s more of a park to drive past than to spend time at because it is the smallest park in the city. How small? It’s located on a concrete median in the middle of the street and sports one small, thin tree.

There are much bigger parks in and around Portland people can actually walk around. This includes Laurelhurst Park. This 31-acre urban park features a large lake full of fish, ducks, and turtles. There are also paved and unpaved walking paths, picnic areas, courts for basketball, volleyball, and tennis, a soccer field, a playground, and an off-leash area for dogs.

There are plenty of things to do at Washington Park, which is also home to the Oregon Zoo. Also located at Washington Park is the Hoyt Arboretum, with more than 6,000 trees and shrubs, the International Rose Test Garden with 7,000 rose plants, the Japanese Garden, and the Children’s Museum. An archery range is also set up in the park.

Forest Park offers a great outdoor opportunity in the Tualatin Mountains, ten minutes away from downtown Portland. This 5,100-acre park has 30 miles of hiking trails, one of which winds past the old Stone House, a popular destination for hikers. Biking and equestrian trails are also part of the park.

Mount Tabor Park is a 190-acre park that boasts an outdoor stage for concerts and other performances. There are also paved and unpaved walking paths, picnic sites, a playground, and courts for volleyball, tennis, and basketball. The park can also be reserved for wedding ceremonies and receptions.

Elk Rock Island has wonderful natural scenery. Part of an ancient volcano that erupted 40 million years ago, this 13-acre park features wetlands, forests, and grasslands, as well as jagged rocks.

Tanner Springs Park is less than an acre in size and surrounded by the Portland cityscape. It has a zig-zag walking path with water on one side, and a fence made and railroad tracks on the other.

Portland, Oregon is the place to visit for people who like to stay active and enjoy the outdoors through their famous parks. Consider staying in a Portland or Oregon Coast vacation rental through Starfish Vacation Rentals to experience all that Portland has to offer.
